Production log 9

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

Since our previous entry we had made a lot of progress, we had filmed another expert interview with another Councillor, then filmed some context openings and endings, afterwards we was able to edit the sections that we had filmed and made a paper edit to gather some structure for our documentary. We needed to achieve all of this work this week in order to remain on schedule. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

In terms of logistical problems, we did not face many. We did have one of our experts call to re-schedule but it was only for a later time on the same day which didnt hinder our progress in any way. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

As for any technical challenges, we did find that the audio of the expert interview did not come out very clean, there was a lot o feedback on the microphone. This meant that we had to edit the interview very carefully, minimising the feedback as much as possible and cutting some parts of the interview where there was too much feedback. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

Before our next entry we hope to have filmed the final 2 vox pops for our documentary and further start to finish the editing, post-production of the documentary so that we can remain on schedule and finish before the deadline.

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

Since the last entry we have made significant progress, we have been able to edit the sections that we couldnt do last week, we was also able to film 2 expert interviews and start to upload the footage for them. Towards the end of this week we also was able to go to dagenham and film some filler and cutaway shots ready for the vox pops. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Whilst we didnt encounter any logistical challenges whilst actually filming this week, we was behind schedule overall. This was due to the fact that we had to find new experts, and find more then what we originally had planned for, this in turn would later give our documentary more substance. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

The only real technical challenge that we faced was the camera battery dieing as we was filming one of our expert interviews, however we did have spares so we could quickly swap them over. Another challenge that we faced was finding music for our documentary, as we needed to have non copyright music it was more of a challenge. However we did already know some youtube channels that produced non-copyright music which we was able to use.  

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

Next week our aim is to get back on track, we want to have edited large parts of our documentary including the expert interviews, as well as going to film our third and final expert interview. Up untill this point we have edited our documentary in sections and we would further like to establish a clearer structure that we want to take.

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

This week we aimed to arrange interviews with some experts and hopefully go to film them, we further wanted to go film some vox pops. Whilst we did not get around to filming the vox pops we was able to edit another section of our documentary, arrange dates to go see the expert Councillors and as well as get some facts and stats together. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

In terms of logistics we had made contact with a councillor that was willing to do an interview with us. However the dialogue broke down and we had to find new experts that would be willing to help us, thankfully we was able to do so. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

One technical issue we did have was when we was uploading footage on to Final cut, the footage seemed to corrupt. This meant it took us a longer time to upload and thus we could not edit what we wanted to. However after uploading the footage several different ways we was able to make copies of the footage and start to edit it. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

As we did lose some time when uploading the footage a real focus of ours is to keep on top of the editing, whilst we didnt film as much as we would have liked we still felt we was slightly behind in our editing. We further aim to have filmed some expert interviews and get a big chunk of the documentary filmed.

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

This week we made further progress, we was able to firstly start the edit on the footage that we had filmed in Copenhagen and secondly we was able to record our introduction to our documentary. We had filmed our intro in Valentines Park, which consisted of 2 piece to camera, along with some other cutaways and filler shots. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We didnt have many logistical problems this week, we was able to easily get to location to film, by bus, and we was able to record with no issue. Whilst there was a small issue with wind because it was an open space, we countered that easily by finding a slightly more enclosed space and tried to film out of the wind which seemed to work. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

The only small problem that we did have was uploading footage, Final cut would drop frame rate on some of our footage. To overcome this we wouldnt upload footage from the SD card straight onto Final cut instead we uploaded it to the mac and then to Final cut. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

Before our next entry we aim to continue to upload and edit the footage that we have filmed this week, but we really want to go film with experts and do some more vox pops in Dagenham. 

Production Log 5

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

Since the previous entry, we had started production and flown out to Denmark, Copenhagen to start filming. Ironically whilst it was the first filming day we actually was filming the ending of our documentary, which had its challenges but we thought was a successful trip. During our time in Denmark, we set out to film some vox pops and talk to the public, as well as film our final conclusion for the documentary.

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistical challenges that we faced was finding people of the public that would stop and speak to us. We of course found it challenging to stop and ask people, but it was more difficult to get someone that would stop as many said no. However we kept going and eventually we found people around the city and Copenhagen's university that did stop for us. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

The technical challenges that we faced came with the audio, whilst they did not fail or cut out, he weather made it more difficult. Throughout filming, we had a wireless microphone attached to me, as well as having an external Rode mic on top of the camera again attached to an external voice recorder. However the wind and weather became an issue, because the mic was so sensitive it picked up a lot of background noise. We overcame this by positioning the interviews at certain angles and covering the wireless mic more. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

When we get back home, we initially want to upload our footage to the mac and import it into Final cut x. Moreover, we want to record our opening and introduction to our documentary at Valentines park. 

Production Log 4

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

Since our last entry we have achieved what our target was, which was to finish all pre-production paperwork, enabling us to film in the following week. We have been able to get a response back from an expert, which was a therapist. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

In terms of logistical challenges, we needed to do some research on Copenhagen, as it was confirmed that we was going, we needed to see if there were any areas that we couldn't film in or any that were unsafe to go to. To which we did find that a certain area of Copenhagen would have been unsafe for us to go there. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

We did face a technical challenge this week as we had uploaded all of the pieces of paperwork, there was one blog post that Miss couldn't see for some reason, so we needed to go back and upload it through onedrive again. Fortunately the second upload miss was able to see. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

The target for next week, is to start production, our first filming date will actually be on Tuesday, where we will travel to Copenhagen, to film some vox pops and the ending of our documentary.

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

This week we was still in pre-production, we needed to come together this week to sort out the questions that we wanted to ask our expert during the interview, as well as producing some questions for our vox pop interviews. We further discussed the possibility of going to Denmark, Copenhagen as part of our documentary. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistical problems this week, came from the narrative arc that we needed to create together. Through this narrative arc we needed to discuss where we wanted to go and film, and the reasons behind it. Whilst we wanted to go to Denmark, we still understood that the logistics of going would be a problem. However we overcame this by looking at the day we could go and the time that we could get off school. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

In terms of technical challenges, we didnt face any, much of the work this week was very collaborative and conversational. We had to produce the documents together, as well as the documents themselves only being word documents and a short blog post. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

Before the next entry we aim to have completed pre-production and finished all paperwork, which would allow us to start production and go film.

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

Since our first production log we have continued with the pre-production paperwork. I was in charge of producing the budget, location reccies and emailing some experts that we could potentially interview. I needed to get my paperwork done quickly so that we could remain on schedule and film according to the production schedule which Franki produced. 

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

At this point in time we did not have any logistical problems, this was because we are only doing pre production, so we are able to work on the paperwork that we divided up and do it ourselves. 

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them? 

I didnt face many technical challenges that prevented me from producing my work, however i did have 1 or 2 small problems which i could get round quickly. The technical challenges mainly stemmed from the location reccies, i needed to get a variety of pictures for each location t illustrate where we would be filming. Whilst i took some my self, i wanted to also take some from google, and when i was pasting the image URL, blogger would not accept them. However i found alternative pictures which would equally illstrate the location. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

The target for the next entry is to really get a lot of the pre-production paperwork finished, which would allow us to remain on schedule. Furthermore, i personally would like to have talked to some experts to see if they are available for an interview.
